Becoming CEO Mommy

February 24, 2015  •  1 Comment

Over two years ago I made the decision to get back into the workplace after being at home for seven years with my children. It was a culture shock, but at the beginning it was fun to learn something new, and work for a company I truly believed in. After two years of retail and two years of making amazing friends, I decided it was time to be my own person again. Having a family, being older, and working retail just wasn't for me. The things I wanted out of it were just not happening, and I found it more rewarding being a photographer. So I quit!

The hardest thing you will ever do in life is walk away from a steady income, and a workplace full of people you truly love and respect. After about a week of crying, lots of wine and chocolate; I came out of my cloud of sadness. I saw all the opportunities that had been placed in front of me and decided to go for it. I am my own boss now when it comes to Grape Soda! I make my schedule, pay the bills and work with who I want to! I also applied for a social media job, nailed my interview, and now I am a social media project manager in charge of a team of amazingly creative individuals who totally rock my world every day. Coming from the flip side of working with disorganized and immature management has taught me how I want to treat my employees, and that I want to be respected by them as well.

Being at home also meant being back in charge of my household again! For seven years I ran a tight ship, and knew what every one was doing, what they loved, what they hated, and just everything! My husband did not run it the same way... So having mommy back home has not only been a transition for myself but for my children as well. I feel very blessed though to spend so much time with them again, and just be happy.

So I wanted to give you guys a little peak at my workspace, and the things that make this CEO mom tick!

I don't have a huge workspace, but I don't need one either! My mac is my life line to the social media world, and I baby her way too much. With a small work space I fully believe in less is better. My favorite part of being a CEO mommy... It is totally awesome to shop for the supplies I needed and wanted, and not have to justify them to anyone else!

Something brand new for Grape Soda Photography this year. Every client will get an awesome welcome kit! What is inside? You will just have to wait and see ;) My business cards come from Moo, and the folders are from Paper Presentation. Peeking out from underneath my welcome kit is my awesome planner-yes very organized and OCD. I have three different calendars to run my life!

Ahhh, once again Moo business cards! I can not live without these. I recently attended a networking event and people were just amazed by these! They leave a great first impression and are amazing conversation starters.

Just because I work from home doesn't mean that I am not going to get dolled up. I love essie nail polish, and these are my favorite colors right now. I like to keep them on my desk because they just make me feel so happy, and always bring a smile to my face (plus sometimes I just take a break to change my nail color :) )

And last but not least, this amazing little find from Joann Fabrics. I am a little old fashioned, I love to use snail mail and call people on the phone. I love to write each client a thank you note for picking me as their photographer, it is truly an honor! These little details really set me apart from other photographers.

So there you are folks a little peek into office life with Grape Soda Photography. I wear so many hats, and some people don't realize that. Mom, taxi cab driver, cook, maid, doctor, nurse, blogger, photographer, moderator, wife, groomer...the list could go on. I love doing what I do though and wouldn't change it for the world!
