I felt lucky to take some time off this past weekend, and travel up to the twin cities for the Minnesota State Fair. I knew I would have some extra time after that, so I called a very good friend Jennifer! She had won a session from me, and I thought it would be the perfect time for her session. I met Jennifer almost over 5 years ago now. My oldest daughter Aliza went to preschool with Emily. It just seems like it was yesterday. Emily and Darien have grown up so much, but I still see the preschooler who would run around with Aliza, and the big brother that would just hang out and watch.
Even though I haven't lived in Stillwater now for 3 years, I knew the perfect setting for this beautiful family. Stillwater is one of those towns just full of amazing scenery and backdrops. I choose a historical marker sight just past the boom site. Stillwater is often called the birth place of Minnesota! Lumbering was the predominant industry in the St. Croix River Valley in the second half of the 19th century, and for many years logs were sent down the St. Croix, collected at the St. Croix Boom Site two miles upstream of Stillwater, and processed in Stillwater's many sawmills. Steamboats were used most widely from 1860 to 1890, and a few are still used for entertainment today.
The setting we choose is right on the river with a beautiful beach. The kids and dogs were in heaven! It was also a cool break from the extreme weather we have been having. We were lucky that the weather actually did cool off this evening. After the beach we stopped at a candy shop downtown and the kids were all smiles, they were amazed at me taking pictures of them oohing and aahing over the candy filled shelves. After a quick snack there we headed to Washington Park, it was later in the evening and the kids and boxers were ready to be done, but after 5 minutes of portraits I had everything done!
We let them run and play while Jennifer and I caught up.
I truly miss my friends in family in Stillwater, MN......
